Banks 1960 Journal 23. June 21 M. Santiam River at Bugalo Creek, 2500 ft., Linn Co., Ore. Worked in this area for 3 hours, but collected only a Fox Sparrow. The area is on a very steep slope, and the vegetation is thick and difficult to get through, except on the remnants of old log roads. Hermit + Piledated Warblers are abundant. Was surprised to see Alder (trails') Flycatcher. Vision of Zonotrichia. M. Santiam River at Minto Creek, Linn Co., Ore. In p.m., walked through an area that must be where Ward Russell collected in 1941. He described it as recently logged and burned. It is now a good second growth stand; the trees are 20-25 ft. tall, and the log roads are grassy. There is still abundant evidence of the fire and logging operations, but much of it is concealed by the new growth. This area is flat. 2 1/2 mi., S, 5 1/2 mi. E Detroit, 2000 ft., Marion Co., Oregon I found White-crowned Sparrows here, in a rather recently logged and burned area, and have described the situation rather fully in my species account for Zonotrichia leucophrys. This is about 1 mile E from the small town of Idanha, on Oregon Rt. 22. Drove on down the river as far as Detroit - I thought I heard a White crow sing there, but am not certain. June 22 This is the only area between my camp & Marion Creek and Detroit with suitable habitat for Zonotrichia with the possible exception of the towns of Idanha & Detroit.
