June 20 Woke up this morning to find everything under 2 inch or more of snow. Rather chilly, but not as bad as last evening. Now at 8:15 have everything packed but the tent, and will do that and leave as soon as the snow melts from it. N. Santiam River at Marion Creek, 2400+ft., Linn Co. Oregon Wade camp here in mid-afternoon at Marion Forks Forest Camp, adjacent to the State Trail Hatley. Set my 4 mouse traps, and before long heard Entomies in one. In late afternoon and again in evening rained a near 1.3 mi. 5 of loc at the junction of Bufalo Creek. N. Santiam River at Bufalo Creek, 2500+ft., Linn Co., Ore. This is an area which has been logged. There is a good; if steep, gravel road up the steep W slope. It is this slope that has been logged. At the top of the hill, where the road enters deep forest, a sign says the area was logged + burned, 1945-1948. It is now second growth, trees to 15 ft. high, dense cedar and Douglas Fir (?). There is a good sprinkling of reparation species, esp. on lower slope - alder + maple. The area is rather dense - rhododendrons & Ceanothus in bloom.
