Babo 1960 Journal. 14. June 13 Sand Flat, 6800 ft., Mt. Shasta, Siskiyou Co., Calif. there are no White-nomed Sparrows on this part of Mt. June 14 Shasta. Broke camp and left early this morning. Birds seen here: Turkey Vulture Red Tailed Hawk Goshawk? Hummingbird sp, & White headed Woodpecker Hairy Woodpecker Flicker Worming Dove Western Wood Pe Kee Olive sided Flycatcher Gray Jay Stella Jay Mt. Chisshadee Red Breasted Nutatch Brown Creeper Robin Mt. Bluebird Townsend Solitaire Hermit Thrush Ruby Crowned Knight Audubon Warbler Western Tanager Evening Grosbeak Carpodacus sp. Oregon Junco Fox Sparrow. Mammals: Chicharee, chipmunk, Golden mantled Ground Squirrel, Peromyscus. Herps: Bufo boreas. Last night just after I went to bed, heard a scraping on the bark of nearby tree. Shined my light, got just a glimpse of eye shine. A flying squirrel? This day was a complete waste. Drove down to Mt. Shasta (City), did some chores + had a grease job. Had to replace 2 badly cut tires. Went back on Rt 99 to McCord, took the road toward Mud Creek Pass. Couldn't make it - went on to the Military Pass Road. I've never seen two such dusty roads! They were bowling loops over Military Pass Road, and it was in bad shape. But I
