June 8 6 1/2 mi S, 4 3/4 mi W Susanville, 6400 ft, Lassen C., Calif.
On the S & E facing slopes there are some springs
or seeps, and here there is some extensive grass,
at the heads of these areas there are large clumps
of Alder and Willow. This is the closest thing to
White-crowned Sparrow habitat I've seen yet,
but there aren't any. At sunset I stood on the
highest point available, could see both Lassen &
Shasta. Set my 5 mouse traps at camp, as I
have done each night, caught 1 Peromyscus.
There are lots of mole voleships, chipmunks &
ground squirrel holes, Lots of deer in area.
In the following bird list, species seen only on
top are marked *.

June 9 In general, there are not many birds, and those
here are very wild. Broke camp at 10,

then west.
