July 9 Kaiser Pass Meadow, 9100 ft., Fresno Co., Calif.
probably entering resting place, strengthening
an opinion of only 1 brood /y. here.
Semi's Kaiser Pass, 8800 ft., Fresno Co., Calif.
Near my camp the White-crowns have a different song, heard them last night,
one about 9:15 pm., another at 2:45 am.
This afternoon while I was shining,
a bird sang constantly, the song being:
- - - -, this is the song heard
yesterday also. At one time I thought I
heard the song of the birds at the pass,
but may have been mistaken - will listen
tomorrow more carefully.
July 10 I did hear this song early in the morning, before
I left for the pass.
Kaiser Pass Meadow, 9100 ft., Fresno Co., Calif. -
First saw 690 feeding on the ground among the
pines before I reached the meadow from the pass.
It flew into a pine. Heard a song from a clump
of pines, obtained 691 there. Heard the song after
this however. It was a long time before I got
another shot. Saw 692 feeding in the grass.
Later, saw another bird feeding in the grass - it
flew to low pines where another joined it. One of
these is 693. 694 & 695 are mates. Got the first
696 was in a small willow clump. Young flew out.
Just as I left the area, heard the song normal for camp.
