Banks 1959 Zonotrichia leucophrys 35. June 29 Macanley Rd, 14 mi N Comtney, Vancouver Iol, B.C., wherever there were suitable clearings, way back into the brush nearly to the edge of the hills. June 30 Mission City, British Columbia - heard birds singing after I had passed through this town. The highway has followed the Fraser River Valley, and presumably this provides access for the birds. I would expect to find [illegible] as far as Agassiz. July 2 North Pas, 6 mi NE Chenequin Co., Wash. - Visited an area where I thought I had detected a V.C. song late last evening, saw 2 birds flush from glass near snow, one was a White-crow, or a Savannah Sparrow. The White-crown flew to a small clump of Fir, and is # 661. It seems to be typical gambelli. [illegible] sometimes on this last slur, the second note or notes quite rapid, seeming a series of 3 -, perhaps in one [illegible] - . The song is quite high pitched & thin, very buzzy. There are several birds in this area but they are difficult to get. The quality of the song is such that it is hard to locate, and it's very windy also. The birds flush well out of half-bad range, fly far, and are very quiet. They are not abundant, mostly in small fir clumps in the wet meadow.
