Zonotrichia leucophrys 33
June 27 Alberni area, Vancouver Island, B.C.
To collect a specimen. This species is supposed to be restricted to the east side of the island. Why guess is that they have followed the highway and/or railroad and associated clearings, or perhaps logging operations with clearings, or both the fact that birds were observed along the highway 11/2 mi. W of Parksville & at the next two localities supports this.
3 mi W Little Indian Falls Prov. Park. V.F., B.C.
On the S side of the road here there is a gravel pit, behind which there is a cleared area of perhaps 5 acres -- this area has been cleared of even small trees, and is mostly brush covered now, with a few small Douglas Firs. There was just one pair of birds here, and altho I got a shot I didn't get a bird.
Whiskey Creek Store, Vancouver Is., B.C. -- This is just inside E of the entrance to Little Indian Falls Provincial Park. Across the road from this store I heard a bird sing. There are 2 or 3 houses here, just back from the road.
