June 25 Ladysmith, Vancouver Island, BC., + vicinity
birds seen today were associated with
what seemed like fully grown, probably
nearly independent young, and were
very wild. They flushed far off and
were adept at using trees & brush piles
for shelters where it was impossible
or impractical to shoot them. Driving
north to Indian - Parksville area,
such the same habitat conditions apply.
June 26 2 1/4 mi N Parksville, Vancouver Island, BC.
628 was one of a pair of birds in this weedy,
grassy field. 629 was of another pair, at
the other end of the field. There were only 2 or
perhaps 3 pairs of birds here. All singing was:

631 was one of a group of birds that flushed at
my approach. There are still at least 2 chipping
There is a good number of birds in this
burned & hopped-over, or else the same bird
flying a lot - probably half a dozen, with some
fully grown young. But they are very wild,
flushing usually even out of half bird range.
The bird I got had lost some feathers on the
throat, and had some pin feathers coming in.
