Babs 1954 Zontrichia leucophrys 13. May 23 Inspiration Point Wilder Park, 1050ft. Contra Costa Co. Calif. It was noted one week ago that this road leading from Inspiration point to the Wilder Base has a large population of singing birds. On May 16 McKonishi found a nest along lee. Today I saw 2 birds near the junction of this road and the main park road, leading toward San Pablo Res., and obtained another singing songbird. The one shot (PCB 464) was singing from a perch in tall mustard, and there were no larkins (Barbara's, etc.) very close - just tall weeds. May 24 Horse G. 5600 ft. 1 mi S. 2mi E Hobart Mills, Nade Co. Calif. Worked in the stream valley here, in scattered willows + occasional thickets, not dense. As I left car, parked in sage, heard White Crowns singing in sage. Saw one pair along a tiny stream (flowing into Horse G.), feeding adjacent to Artemisia. Couldn't get either bird. One sang from a small isolated pile in the sage. Along the stream, birds were not abundant. Mostly they seemed paired, but at least 3 (maybe 4) together in one spot (# 466 is one of them). The birds were very secretive + hard to get shots at. They flew long distances, sometimes across the stream, but at least some were
