Banks 1959 2. Thamnophis June 9 3.1 mi N, 1 mi W Fort Whith, sea level, Del Norte Co., Califf. ways by riparian woods. I got six this afternoon, REB 479-484. Some have tripper lateral, some 8. All are very buffy or orangish around the neck. Most if there are, I think, June 10 gravel 47. III at 5 pm. today took 3 more snakes from the same area. The sun hit this spot nearly all day. REB 496-498. June 12 As I was approaching this spot about 5 today, there were 2 cats, over there, and I could find no snakes. A ways west, however, in brushy weedy pasture, I found one garter snake under some pieces of bark. This is REB 518. This is small, seems different from the others. June 13 But one snake in the brushy land not too far from # 518, (# 520) and three more in the first place at the bend of the road. These are REB 521-523. June 16 Lin's Shoe Acres, 500 ft. Coos Co., Oregon - There is a small deep running over the side of the granny tree. As I was going along looking for frogs, saw a very small garter snake in the grass. It is now REB 553. Have seen a few other garter snakes in the general area, but have I been able to obtain them. June 18 Metato Bay spit sea level, Tillamook Co., Oregon - Caught one of 2 snakes seen, REB 587. This seems to be a different species, its stripes being orange.
