Aneides ferreus
June 28 Oyster River, Vancouver Island, B.C.
Turned over a charred log in this grassy field, and it partly fell apart, exposing a salamander. Tore the log apart, found some more altho the field & log were dry, it was charred, its interior was quite moist & rotting. There were also many Isopods in the log. The salamanders were deep in the wood, not just under the bark.
They put out a slime all over them. I tore apart other logs nearby, but they seemed less rotten and less moist, and I found no other salamanders. 647-652.
