Nov 14-15 Tomales Point, 0-250 ft., Marin Co. Calif.
picked up traps, broke camp about 11 a.m. Caught
wee; Peromyscus maniculatus, Sorex trowbridgii,
Mus musculus californicus, Reithrodontomys.
On the afternoon hike, in Tomales Bay, we
saw many Surf Scoters, a Loon, and 4
Black Scoter. On the west side of the point
we saw Black Turnstone. On the plains
there was a variety of song birds. Andalus
Warblers were common wherever there were
trees or high brush, some even foraging at the
water's edge. Song Sparrows were seen in
thick brush. Koen-tis heard occasionally,
Black Phoebes were abundant. Saw one
Ruby-crowned Kinglet, White-crowned Sparrow
were very common, in large flocks, and
Golden-crowned Sparrows were fairly common.
Scrub Jays were present, not abundant. On
Bird Rock, we saw Cormorants, Brown
Pelicans in large numbers, and gulls -
Western Gull, +others. In late afternoon, on
the east side of the point, saw Least Willet,
+Black-bellied Plover, and a small flock (15+)
of Sandelings. Sunday a.m., there were
Black+Surf Scoters, 3+?, and 2 ? Mergansers.
On the west side, Evans + I saw 3 Harlequin
Ducks, and a large flock (200+) of Western Grebes.
Also saw a few Horned Grebes. Both days, hawks,
