Barbo 1954 Journal 43. Oct. 2 Soglen Creek Exp. Sta. 6400+ft, 3mi NW Yola Mill, Nevada Co., Calif. We were on Mammalogy (2nd/135) field trip. Dr. Benson, 4 students, C. Thaler, W. Maker are here. Students set traps in various places. One Oregon Juncos was cought in a musserm special, put up tonight. I shot a chipmunk in p.m., near rock slide. Radvorsky put Oct. 3 Trip. Tried a little hunting today, saw chickadees, D.V.M, Ground Squirrel, Chipmunks; shot 1 Chipmunk. John Uphinick got a Juncos and a Linedin Sparrow in traps; I put them up. In late morning, went gopher trapping with Charlie Thaler, at 1.5mi E Calpine, 4925+ft., Siera Co., Calif. I shot a Darkel Sparrow. Moved to 3.6mi N, 1.8mi E Calpine, 4950+ft, Plumas Co., Calif. one of the gopher trapping localities. Here there was sage, grass, and pine groves. Juncos, White-crowned Sparrow were feeding in grass +sage, shot 1 Field Sparrow; Mountain Blue- birds also here. In the pines there were White- headed Woodpecker (I shot 1, Thaler put it up) and White-breasted Nuthatch. In the Sierra Valley here we saw Marsh Hawk, Blackbilled Magpie, Western Meadowlark, and Brewer Blackbird, Oct. 4 Today Torha Williamson's Sapsucker in a pine tree. Had 2 gophers - see Thaler's notes. Left the station about 2 p.m., Ken Evans got a Junc., White-crowned Sparrow in a trap.
