June 21 Westport, Gray's Harbor Co., Wash. area
recently logged is extremely heavy with brush.
There is some grass, but not hot brush.
Finally found an area at:
4 mi S Westport, sea level, Gray's Harbor Co., Wash.
where Mr. Roberts, who owns the land, gave
me permission to "catch" birds. This tract is
being laid out in lots, so won't be suitable
for collecting very long. It is adjacent to the
beach and to the road (134). It is sand,
with a fair covering of grass, and occasional
lupine (yellow). A slough runs thru it, and
has some willows bordering it. Got 6 birds
here in a short time. At this area saw
Western Meadowlark, Savannah Sparrow,
White-crowned Sparrow, Barn Swallow, Purple
Finch, Amer. Goldfinch. In other nearby
areas, saw additionally, in these places:
2 mi S, 3 mi E Westport - Golden Crowned Kinglet,
Winter Wren, Say Sparrow, Orange-crowned
Warbler, Tree Swallow, Olive-backed Thrush,
Western Flycatcher, and at
2 mi S, 3 mi E Westport - Oregon Junco, Robin,
Pearl Bluebird, Alder Flycatcher, Killdeer,
Crow, Rufous Hummingbird, and Cowbird.
Also have seen Chestnut-backed Chickadee,
Cedar Waxwing, quail, and a [Blue] Goose.
