Banks 1959 Journal 21 June 19 4 mi S, 4mi W Tillamook, sea level, Tillamook Co., Oregon Went to try to whistle span owl, but had no luck. Amused myself for an hour or so trying to catch frogs in a chorus in the roadside ditch. Got 4 Hyla, 4 Tanicha, and on the way back to camp got #3 Bufo in the road. June 20 What with shriming birds, taking care of herbs, cleaning up, etc., didn't get away from this camp till 1 PM. Did laundry + shopping in Astoria, then just missed the ferry. It was about dark around 9PM (I am on DST all the time). Pulled out to Haystack Island. The Twin Harbors State Park was full - there is an exceptionally low tide, the best of the season for clammers - and everyone is here. Stayed overnight at Frizzy Joe's Camping Area, a couple miles south of Westport. When I pulled in it was foggy, with occasional misting. June 21 A strong wind all night has somewhat dispersed the fog, and there are patches of blue sky showing. Left to find a hunting area about 7am, will go to the state park later today. Spent a couple hours just driving around the area, looking for birds and shooting areas. White-crowns are scarce, as is their habitat. Most of the land is in second-growth timber, and what has been
