Banks 1954 Journal 17. June 15 Linn's Shore Acres, 500+ft., Coos Co., Oregon,- A little farther along this trail than I had been yesterday, there opens on the left a large valley. This is generally the cut-burned aspect of the rest of the [illegible], but the ravines on the North slope still have some groves of starchy pine, and there are extensive patches of riparian growth in the bottom, where there is apparently a stream. The trail leads south, and I followed it to nearly the end. There is a beautiful view - it's nice country in spite of the poor forestry. I went as far as: Linn's Shore Acres, 700+ft., Coos Co., Oregon, where I obtained one of my spanions. On this high ridge, saw a pair of Red-tailed Hawks. Linn's Shore Acres, 500+ft., Coos Co., Oregon - Saw Tree Swallows at the edge of this valley. Also, back at camp, saw Belted Kingfisher and Western Flycatcher. June 16 Got a late start. Collected in some general locality. Entered the riparian habitat in the bottom of the large valley briefly. It is very dense - mostly Alder - there is a stream, apparently a dendrite of small streams. Birds were scarce, but it was noon. The area was very cool + moist, lots of fallen logs, but no salamanders. Got back to camp late, worked till after dark shinning.
