Sunset Beach State Park, Coos Co., Oregon
poor habitat. Besides the birds noted yesterday,
have seen so far today: Pileated Woodpecker,
Hummingbird, American Goldfinch, Turkey
Vulture, Condor, Whin-chat, Black-headed
Grackle, Raven & Crow both around
camp. Also is a Golden-crowned Kinglet
singing. Flicker.
Linn's Shore Acres, 500 ft., Coos Co., Oregon -
This is essentially the same location as the park;
it is my collecting locality, mostly just outside
the park boundary, on top of the ridge. The area
here is as previously described - cut, brushy, and
in addition it has been burned. On top of the
ridge, behind the quarry (on map) there are 3 old
abandoned buildings. Barn Swallows are nesting
here. The road, not on map, continues to the east.
The valleys, or gorges (it is very dissected) still have
some timber; mostly thick riparian growth, but
occasional conifers. Back of the first ridge there
are still some forested patches. Saw Band-
tailed Pigeons, Purple Finch, and one female
Ruffed Grouse. Saw one Garter Snake.
Caught a Sterrhonotus, but it escaped.

Spent until 5 p.m. today putting up the birds
I shot yesterday p.m. Spent from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
in the field, in this same area - got, all
told, 4 more White-crows and a Pine Siskin.
