Balds 1954 Journal 14 June 11 3, 1 mi. N., 1 mi. W. Fort Whick, sea level, Del Norte Co. Calif. tomorrow if not impossible. New birds for this locality today: Savannah Sparrow, Vaux Swift, Black-capped Chickadee [heard before but not recorded] and Red-tailed Hawk. June 12 Got a late start this morning. Got 9 sparrows and was back in camp before 11, however. The glass was very wet; last it had stopped raining during the night and was overcast in the early a.m. About 10 a.m., a fairly hard, cold-wet wind started, lasting until about 6 p.m., when it got very still as it is now. It has been cloudy all day. After supper took a short walk; got a Chestnut-backed Chickadee near camp, a garter snake and a White-crowned Sparrow. Tried to get a Night-hawk until it got too dark. Tonight saw Spotted Sandpiper along the river, and an Ash-throated Flycatcher. Saw a bat - have heard them several evenings. June 13 Went out about mid-morning to take a few pictures. Didn't see anything new. Put up the skins shot last night, right after getting up. Got more garter snakes. Left this area about 11 a.m., drove to the Goose Bay area. Pretty country, but very crooked roads. Sunset Beach State Park, Coos Co., Oregon - but settled in a campsite here. This is a very nice park - a welcome change after roughing it.
