June 9 3.1 mi N, 1 mi W Fort Clark, sea level, Yell Vtite Co., Calif.
Vulture, Tree Swallow, Flicker, Yellow Warbler,
Purple Finch, Cedar Waxwing, Crow, Calif. Trail,
+ White Crowned Sparrow, also hummingbird + a
worm-eater. Later heard a Nighthawk. Saw
some [illegible] rabbits, garter snakes. Can hear Hyla.
June 10 Late to bed last night, but up + out fairly early this
a.m. Got 8 sparrows, and with the 3 shot last
evening had quite a job today. Got it done,
however. Picked up a few more garter snakes
about 5pm. Today was sunny, warm but
with a cool breeze blowing most of the day.
Now it is very still. This is quite a pleasant
spot. New finds today: Belted Kingfisher,
Cowbird, Allen Hummingbird, Western Woodpe-
nee, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Brewer Blackbird,
Band Tailed Pigeon, Great Blue Heron, Raven,
Downy Woodpecker. The major shrub in the
pastures here, from which I am getting most of my
specimens, seen by the putres in Jepson's to be
of the genus Lotus (Leguminosae), but I don't know
for sure. Barn Swallow + Cliff Swallow both
nesting around Jepson's place + the one at the end of
the road. //// A bright sunny morning. But
8 sparrows + a Black-capped Chickadee was back in
camp at 10. About 4:30 it started to mist then
drizzle, now it is raining, but not hard. It looks
like it will continue, tho. Will be not collecting
