May 1 Bolinas area, Marin Co., Calif. Snowy
Egret, Dowitcher, Horn, Killdeer, Coot,
American Merganser, and a few other
things, incl. a Goldeneye. Also, in the
RCA area, found skeleton of a spine-bird
deer, of which I brought the skull back.
May 8 Trip to Mendocino Co. Coast - Left
Bodega about 8pm. Today, Fri. Drove Rt.
101 to Cloverdale, then 128 to the coast.
Slept at midnight in Redwoods just a
few miles beyond Navarro. Up at 6, heard
Brown Creeper, Western Flycatcher, Hermit Thrush,
Russet-backed Thrush, Song Sparrow, and a
Piledated Woodpecker. Got on Rt. 1, Coast
Highway, just S of Albion. Saw a White-
crowned Sparrow very soon - then no
more till Mendocino (city). Since my
interest in this trip is in White-crowns,
most of my notes on vegetation, etc., will
be under that species. Stayed at Russian
Ranch State Park, N of Mendocino, to look +
eat + catch up on notes. Very windy
ever since I left home, except in the Redwoods.
Have seen a number of Turkey Vultures, gulls,
and Calif Junail here at the park. Drove
north with a variety of stops. Goldfinches and
Song Sparrows common, saw 1 Vanq Swift, Harris
