May 1 Bolinas area, Marin Co., Calif. - S.E. (Star)
Bolzan. Mr. Bolzan, who I saw about noon, allowed me to shoot on this land.
By the time I net him, I had 8 birds,
had visited several areas with poor luck.
The only shootable area with birds was
along Mesa Rd., in the RCA area. The best
bet was shooting right along the road.
In the afternoon I went along the N. side
of this road, into the brushy fields, and
shot up to 18 birds for the day, plus one
Barn Swallow. Picked up 3 garter snakes.
Left the area about 4:30 - came back
on the road directly across Rt. 1 from
the Bolinas [illegible], which led to the
corner of the hilltop & toward Alpine Lake. Beautiful
drive. Picked up a nectar (Janika)
somewhere E of Alpine Lake. In the shooting
area, saw: Song Sparrow, Scrub Jay, Calif.
Finch (see note), Bewick Wren, Anna
Hummingbird (very abundant), Raven,
Bever Blackbirds, Wren Fit, Pileated
Wailer, Red-tailed Hawk, Turkey Vulture,
a flock of about 10 Golden-crowned
Sparrows, Spotted Towhee, Barn Swallow,
Rough Winged Swallow, Redwing. Along
the coast, Rt. 1, from Stinson Beach to
Bolinas, saw Great Blue Heron, Snow Egret,
