Apr. 19 Pescadero area San Mateo Co., Calif. - Got up
about 6 shot # 16 in the open area at
the Ponponia area. Birds wild here now.
The day started dark, not foggy, but over-
cast. Moved to the Pebble Beach area,
got 17+16, a pair. Few birds here, but
in a field saw several in what may have
been a flock. In mi & Pebble Beach got
no. 19. Added the following birds to
my list today: flock of Bonaparte Gulls
15-20, flying along coast; Redwing
Great Blue Heron, inland near Calif. Trail
many Yellowthroats, and Pale-olated Warbler.
At Pebble Beach saw flock of 13 plovers
(Black-bellied) in winter plumage in freshly
seeded field. Too many people & too wild
birds - poor shooting today. Left area
about 10 am.
May 1 Bolinas area, Marin Co., Calif. - Arrived
here about 7 AM. The morning was
frustrating - birds were scarce, not
singing, and very wary. By 8 o'clock had
only 2 birds. Drove along Mesa Rd. to
Palomarini Nursery, and was refused
permission to shoot on their property. This is
a religious outfit, and owns 4000 acres. The
next big chunk of land back toward
Bolinas is owned by R.C.A., leased by
