Banks 1959 Journal 2 Apr. 18 Pescadero area, San Mateo Co., Calif.- cliff top, with lots of Bachmans + sage (?). Here got 6 White-crowns, staying here 'til just after noon. Drove to town of Pescadero, then north along old east road for a while, all posted. Tried South along that road- all posted. On inland (east) mile of the road belongs to J. Urias + Sons. I looked them up in Pescadero & got permission to shoot birds. Than couldn't get but 2. Birds were concentrated along the road, few in fields, Here added Whew-tit to my list, + Sable Jay. Saw the Sheriff's man while hunting Mr. Urias. They say no shooting in the Co. except at rumps, etc., unless w/ written permission of land owner. Also they mentioned no shooting at beach. Glad they told me too late. Now is cool + windier, & I am on beach, 4pm. Will try hunting again just before dark. The third locality I am calling Lmi E. Pelle Beach, 2 SOST, Urias Ranch. The object of this trip is to collect as many White-crowned Sparrows as possible, putting them on dry ice (6.10/lb., min. 2oz) to put up during next week. Have moved back to Pomponio Beach area now- too cold at beach, not much better here, but birds are here & I can shoot fairly safely. Maps for this trip are Tini Tracks, 1953, Pigeon Point and San Gregorio.
