F.M.Brock 1958 July 16 Caribou 2 Pitt Point, Alaska According to the men at Pitt Point, there have recently been a large group of caribou in the area. On a walk west of camp, in the afternoon, I saw a group of over 200, about one mile west of the camp. While feeding, the group was well spread out, but when I approached they brunched and ran. Later after they had relaxed, they started feeding, and soon were very much spread out again. Later, this first group seemed to be joined by another large group of about 100 individuals. They have remained in the one area for about four hours and can be seen from the camp. On feeding, they move about very slowly. July 17 An L.K.T. trip was taken to an area five miles south west of Pitt point were we obtained water samples from two large winter water supply lakes. While there, I [illegible] noticed a large herd (100-200) of caribou grazing about 2 miles west of us. On our return trip we drove past a herd of about one hundred while many single or small groups were also seen. July 22 Flying low in a bush plane (50'-100') between Pitt Point and Cape Simpson.
