M. Brock 1958 Mustela visosa 2 July 7 Barrow, Alaska has been provided with a constant food supply - mostly dead birds from the traplines. July 8 The mouse is still alive. A small dish of water was placed in the cage several days ago and is very often used by the weasel. It was at first assumed that the weasel would get enough moisture from the meat it ate, but immediately after the water was placed in the cage, the weasel started using it and has been using it consistently since then. July 10 The white mouse is still alive. The last time the weasel was fed was July 7 when it was given two dead birds. Assuming that these are probably used up by now, the mouse should not live long. Once again, it is interesting about the water supply. I've noticed on three or four occasions that when the weasel runs out of water, it starts licking the glass of the aquarium it is in. When water is given to it, it immediately goes to drink and remains then for about half a minute drinking. It is very interesting to observe the weasel when it is through eating; it will push its lower jaw along the ground (like a plow) thus cleaning itself.
