Microtus
June 18 Atkasake, Mead River Coal Mine, Alaska
While I was placing the traps out near
stake 1.0 this morning (about 11:30)
a Microtus ran across the ground
and into a pond of water and started
swimming across. I started after it;
and as I did, the Microtus dove
and started swimming underwater
in the shallow pool. I caught it
and brought it back to the wariqan
and will try to get it back to Barrow
alive,
June 23 Upon returning to ARL from the Mead
yesterday, I placed the Microtus in its
own aquarium. Today three partially
eaten young were found in the cage
(aquarium)
Aug 30 Microtus killed today and prepared as
a study skin. A pup was present but no scars
could be found although she had given birth
to a litter on June 23 - Specimen # 925
