July 1 A lemming skeleton was found on the tundra today and from appearance of the skull which is broken and half missing the animal must have been eaten. Aside from the lemmins not mentioned June 26, four other nests were looked at and there did not contain dead animals. July 17 Pitt Point, Alaska No recent lemming signs at all has been noticed. The 306 traps that have been out since throwing of the 15th have caught only three birds. Very few winter lemming nests present. Of the few looked at, I have not found any with dead lemmings inside. July 18 Still no lemmings taken in traps. Several more winter nests found and looked at, but no dead lemmings found inside as at Barrow, Alaska July 23 Barrow, Alaska Royal Shanks and Don Stephens, individually reported lemmings activity out by the Point (Barrow). I went to the point along with Don today and only saw signs of where lemmings had been active during the winter. Runways, droppings
