Raising of young

July 25 A.R.H. Barow, Alaska
running about the aquarium
July 27 Young seem feeding for themselves
although this does not mean that
they are weaned yet.
July 29 One young found dead in the nest
maybe due to fact that food supply
became low last night. The dead
individual is much browner then
any of the previous specimens from
litter one. Measurement follow:

Two of the live young weighed one
was 10.0 g the other 10.5 grams
July 30 Young looked at today. Four are quite
large, healthy and very active. The fifth
is small, inactive, slow and will
probably not live.
July 31 The fifth lemmings in the litter
was found dead in the nest Today
it is very much smaller then its
siblings. #587 f 67-7-15-4-5.6g - 18 days old
Nine unweaned lemmings (eyes just
begining to open) were brought in from
Barrow Village. The mother was not with
them. Three were already dead, a fourth
was dying. Five of the living young
placed in with the lactating female
