E.M Brock 1957 Raising Youngs Litter 1 4 July 8 Barrow, Northern Alaska Most of the time the mother seems to be ignoring the young - she has built another nest (depression) in the opposite corner of the aquarium and spends most of her time at that spot. When one of the young Tries to approach her at this location she nips at them. Maybe the young are not yet weaned and are starving although I have seen them starting to take food placed in the aquarium. July 9 All three still alive and very active. They are now very agile at swimming about and perhaps weaned - if I were sure would remove the P parent July 11 One young weighed today was 6.0g. All three alive and very active; one of them even built itself a crude nest. Their pelage is still a very uniform grey much like that of an adult Mevotis californius July 14 One of the young was observed suckling today, therefore are not fully weaned although they could probably be strictly weaned. July 16 One of the young was weighed today, its weight being 11.3 grams
