E.M Brock 1957 Raising Youngs Litter 1 3 June 29 ARL Barrow, Writhin Alaska It seems that the parent spends about 75% of his time away from the nest just sits in the opposite corner of the aquarium July 2 Two young weighed today one 4.4, the other 5.0 grams. Eyes still closed, well covered with hair and toes widely separated July 5 weights on two of them were 5.0 and 6.3. They are fully haired, toes separated and their eyes are just beginning to open. When I look in the nest the young have a tendency to escape and therefore either "burrow" their way into the nestings material or else crawl out of the nest and on the ground about the nest. Two of the young were today observed stumbling out of the nest and wobbling over to some grass blades and feeding on them. Their eyes are open by just a very small slit. July 7 One of the six young was found dead in the Nest this morning. wt 4.9 g 63-8-13-3 # 456 July 8 When I checked this morning another young was found dead in the nest. Also, only three live ones can be found in the nest. f 64-8-14-3 - 4.3 g #457
