E.M. Brock Lemmus 1957 A.R.K., Pt. Barow, Alaska May 27 First Lemming seen (Lemmus) was the one that Mrs. Hanna caught on April 11 (in the construction camp area) and placed in an aquarium. The Lemming is still alive and in Mrs. Hanna's room. May 28 Three Lemmuns brought in from the village by Chester Lampel. All three are young ones. All were dead although Chester said he had tried to keep one alive. (See Journal) May 29 Saw Chester this morning, he reported bringing in six small Lemmings, I haven't seen them yet. On a trip on the tundra about one mile east of the god well, Bill Maker and I discovered an area which appeared to have had winter Lemming usage; there were lots of clipped grass blades and very few blades of grass that remained standing. About one-half mile east of the god well a large piece of Lemmus pelage was found on an owl mound. The pelage appeared to be a winter coat. May 30 Chester brought in five more Lemmuns from the village. Tom Cade and I processed all 14 Lemmuns brought
