June 10 Wainwright, Alaska
The only mammal caught today was
one Dicrostonyx at stake 5.2 in transect I
June 30 Atkasuk, Mead River Coal Mine, Alaska
Two Dicrostonyx caught at transect II
in today's check. The first was taken in
a trap set in a trough made by an
old frost crack. Immediate area very
snowy, berry bushes, Ledum, some
willow, lichens, no tursocks and very
little Eriophorum. This was at stake 4.2
The other at stake 7.6 was trapped in
a very mossy area in a polygon trough
which was relatively dry. Many tall (10")
willows and tall (10") grasses, some
Cassiope and some berry bushes.
July 1
A subadult male Dicrostonyx was taken
in a trap at stake 7.8 in transect III. The
entire trapline looks like good Dicrostonyx
habitat with many troughs, willow and
berry bushes. Once again this individual
also was not trapped near any runway.
Aug 18 Wainwright, Alaska
After four days of trapping with 600+ traps
for Dicrostonyx have been taken but not a
single Lemmus.
