June 29 Savannah Sparrow
Atkasuk, Mead River Coal Mine, Alaska
Upon taking a walk through the willows along the bank of the river near the village,
I noticed, upon closer examination that
the savannah sparrows are actually quite
common in the willow bushes. Two
individuals were collected and prepared
as study skins.
July 1
Most of the savannah sparrows had
been seen only along the river in the
willows. Several were noticed today in
willows, far from the river proper.
Whenever savannah sparrows are found
the red polls are also seen. The two
birds seem to occupy very closely the
same habitat.
