European Wheatear
Oenanthe Oenanthe Oenanthe
A.R.H. Pt. Barrow, Alaska
May 29
Went into the field today with Bill Maher.
At a location about two miles east
of the oil well near beach ridge Bill
shot and collected a wheatear. This was the
only one seen. This bird seems to differ in
the field, by the fact that it stands up
more erectly than the longspur

Cape Sabine
North of Pitmegea River, Northern Alaska
Walked about tundra for a long time
without seeing any wheatears. Hank Child
claims those seen today are the first
he has seen here at Pitmegea. We
did not see any until we were walking
along a rocky bar "lithosol" area were
the first wheatear was seen and shot. More
another and another was seen until at
least six were seen right near the
lithosol area near the established campsite.
I shot four of these and later prepared
two as skulls, skins, Childs prepared one
the other will probably be prepared later.
