July 12 Barrow, Alaska
Seeing a snowy owl near the point on
several occasions; again yesterday evening.
I saw a snowy owl perched on the
top of one of the tall telephone pole like
structures in back of the laboratory.
July 13 Owl mentioned yesterday, seen again
today perched on tall poles by dump.
July 14 Owl seen flying over fresh water lakes,
coming from vicinity of tall poles.
July 23 At least two different snowy owls (maybe
three) seen out at the point. Don Stephens,
who makes a trip to the point every day
states he sees two or three every time he
goes out there, He also has seen foxes. The
only logical conclusion is that these animals
have been attracted by and are feeding
upon dead and crippled ducks left by
the eskimos.
July 25 Royal Shanks reports seeing a snowy
owl by Volschlag trough,
July 30 Owl seen about 500 yards south of turnout
1 and 4 and flushed by approaching wheel.
It flew to mound directly in front of Sunset
I. Then when I approached with the wheel
again it flew to a mound about 100
feet from the end of turnout I. I left
this site as I approached it on foot
