E.M.Brock 1957 Snowy Owl 5 July 16 Barrow, Northern Alaska even from this distance I could once again notice many shorebirds in a flock flying back and forth over the area where the owl was located. (see notes June 29) July 19 While I was setting out transects XI + XII a snowy owl was seated 500 yards west of transect XI and remained there during my entire stay. I later checked the area and could find nothing but an owl mound and an owl feather. On my return trip as I passed the large salt water lagoon an owl was flushed from a mound just west of the large lake (garbage lake) This may very likely have been another owl. Aug 3 When I approached transect I to check the traplines in the evening, a snowy owl was perched on the large mound located 50 feet from stake 0.0 I that transect. It flushed and flew to a mound at approximately the mid-way point of transect II. As I continued my check of the line and around the bird it once again flushed and flew
