June 22 Barrow, Alaska
Observed for the first time this season
in Central Marsh. One individual
collected. Two other single individuals
observed. A small group of five seen
feeding.
June 23 A group of eight seen feeding in pond
in Central Marsh.
June 30 Atkasuk, Mead River Coal Mine, Alaska
Bird scared from nest went into a
crippled distress act with much chipping.
nest five feet from large pool in
stream which is located in a large
trough. Much tall grass in the area
with a willow bush in the immediate
surroundings. The willows form a dense
canopy covering over the nest. Nest
composed of grass and dead willow
leaves and had four dark green
eggs spotted with brown. Surprising how
much the eggs look like phalarope or
sandpiper eggs. My sudden approach
apparently caused the bird to depose
on two of the eggs,
July 1 Eggs of yesterdays nest looked at in
morning and afternoon today. They have not
hatched yet.
