Red-backed Sandpiper
July 7
Barow, northern Alaska
While I was on the way to check
traps IX and E two separate
sets of chicks were seen follow the
parent bird. Both were groups of four
chicks. In one group, they were
accompanied by both parents. The chicks
upon becoming frightened immediately
lowered themselves into the grass
and become quiet. Parent birds
acted annoyed but did not display
a broken wing act.
July 10
Three fledglings were accidently trapped
in transects III A + IIB in this morning's
check of the lines.
