Golden Plover
Athasek, Mead River Coal Mine, Alaska
June 12 A pair of [illegible] golden plovers have been seen
in the vicinity of the village for the last
few days now. About a 200 yards west of
the last building in the village there is a
moist open area were the birds have
been seen, a nest may be about somewhere.
Bill brought in four eggs that he
found in a golden plover nest; the eggs
are sharply tapered and a dirty white
with heavy brown-black irregular markings
on them.
June 16 A pair of golden plovers have been
seen to the west of transect III nearly
every time I've been there. They
run about, voicing their objection to my
presence. No doubt a nest is in the locality.
July 2 Barrow, Northern Alaska
Nest with four un-hatched eggs found
near stack nine transect IX.
Found only after female was seen
complaining and "dipping" away.
July 7 Eggs mentioned July 2 still not hatched
July 8 Eggs not yet hatched
