Pintail
June 25 Atkasook, Mead River Coal Mine, Alaska
A nest was discovered just north of transect VII. The nest contained eight eggs.
The female went waddling through the willows (were the nest was located) with her tail dragging behind in a distraction display.
July 17 Pitt Point, Alaska
While on an L.V.T. trip to the two very large lakes southwest of Pitt Point,
we came across approximately 600 pintails, mostly flightless, molting birds. These birds were seen in a marshy area about four miles south west of Pitt Point. Most birds were on a pond while some were in grassy water areas. Some were just barely able to fly while the majority could not get off the water.
July 25 Banow, Alaska
They follow a census of the ducks hanging racks at the duck camp; all were shot this week: 299 King eiders, 25 Pacific eiders, 69 spectacled eiders, 2 red-throated loons, one pintail and about five thick billed murres.
August 2 Female pintail followed by six ducklings seen in dumps area behind (south) Banow camp.
