Aug 10
Cape Simpson, Alaska
Traps checked in the evening and
retrieved. Only two more longspurs taken.
No lemmings taken during the three day
run.
Aug 11
Barrow, Alaska
Left Cape Simpson at about 1000. Clear
day but not as warm as yesterday.
Back at lab, I tried to identify the three
birds that had been brought back and
the only conclusion is that they are still
sandpipers
I retrieved the two terns by Beach
Ridge (V + VI). These had been left out
during my absence since I was unable
to retrieve them before leaving.
Apparently, two ptarmigan which were seen
today near the lines, had died off of
the bird catches in the traps, see for species.
Many traps were missing and many
traps had only bird remains in them. There
was no trap that contained an untouched
specimen. Two snowy owls were seen
a distance north of the transect
Aug 12
Prepared study skins of the three still
sandpipers collected at Cape Simpson and
the three buff-crested sandpipers collected Aug
6 at Barrow.
