E. M. Brock 1958 Journal Aug 8 Cape Simpson, Alaska could be lifted in the air. In the afternoon a walk was taken out towards the spit, walking north of about 2-3 miles. Several old ice cells are located there and some burial boxes (coffins). Three groups of drant were seen resting on the Tundra. Several more groups of idlers were seen flying overhead, going west. A few small groups of pintails also seen on the tundra. One parasitic jaeger was seen, several snowswitches, many muddy turnstones and many red phalaropes. Three longspurs removed in evening check of traps. I have been rooming with Charles Edwardson who has been providing me with some very good smoked whitefish and smoked Salmon. Aug 9 One longspur taken in morning check of trapline. Took five bottles of water samples from the drinking supply lake just west of the site. These will be analyzed back at the lab. Walked about one mile N W of site. Much old lemming sign but none new. Took walk along beach about Two miles S E. Found an extensive ice scratcher for "colling" reeds, no jaegers or owls seen.
