F.M. Brock 1958 Journal August 2 Barrow, Alaska Checked triplines VII and VIII in morning and afternoon and not even a bird had been caught. Processed lemmings all day. Many some had broken leg bones. On second tought, it seems plausible that many of the legs could be broken while the lemmings were in the frozen state. Legs may protrude, and with the amount of handling that is involved before they reach the lab, it is possible that leg bones could easily be broken. August 3 Triplines VII and VIII checked just once today. August 4 Checked triplines VII and VIII once today and picked up the two line. Only a few longspurs caught. Set out the two triplines at transects V and VI Processed lemmings during the day. August 5 Triplines V and VI checked in morning and evening no lemmings caught. A pair of snowy owls were seen at the mouth of Volachley Slough yesterday and they were seen again on the same ground today. A pair of buff-breasted sandpipers were shot on the return trip to the lab. They were seen near Fish Lake near the dump area. One of those was prepared as
