R.M. Brock Journal 1958 July 9 Barrow, Alaska afternoon, not a lemming or bird caught in the lines. Finished taken soil and vegetation samples for Schultz. Picked up pellets from stakes 5 and 12 of the selected plots and also clipped new growth of plot 12. Arnold Schultz arrived today and he was driven about the tundra and given a brief familiarization with the tundra. July 10 Processed lemmings in the morning and made forage utilization checks of transect I and II. Checked traplines IV A and IV B in afternoon and not a single animal caught likewise only two traps set off. Also made utilization checks for these two lines Schultz went along and took samples of soil in the afternoon. July 11 Processed several lemmings. Ran a forage utilization check of lines III A and III B. Retrieved traps from transects IV A and IV B and took them over to Central Marsh and set out traplines VII and VIII. Not a single mammal or bird was caught in either transect
