July 6 Barrow, Alaska
dry enough to run. Also looked at transects XI and XII which are extremely wet and probably useless to run. Then drove over to Marsh Slew and circled it. We were looking for eiders and did not find any until our journey brought us to the can dump behind the construction camp where we saw 9 female stellars and one male stellar eider. There were extremely few birds on the tundra - no plovers were seen, no gulls, ools or snow buntings; about three longspurs were seen, very few Bairds sandpipers, about three dunlins and one pectoral sandpiper. Two long-tailed jaegers and nine parasites were seen though.
Mays checked in evenings with a few birds being caught in III A.
July 7 Processed one lemming which was brought in from Barrow Village. Ran traplines III A and IV B in the morning and afternoon. Made forage utilization checks of transects IX and X.
July 8 Processed lemmings most of the day. Took in transects III A and III B and set out transects IV A and IV B.
