E.M. Brock 1958 Journal June 28 Athaskan, Mead River Coal Mine, Alaska as a study skin. June 29 Checked traps once today - I checked III and IV and Tom checked I and II. Only a few longspins were caught. Took a walk along the river next to the village were the banks are covered with willows. When I started to look closely at the birds among the willows, I found the the savannah sparrows were quite common. Two were shot and prepared as specimens. Later I walked through this area again and collected two red polls which were later prepared as specimens. During the course of these walks and the checking of traplines, two gulls and one jaezer were seen. Found three more lemming nests (maybe Microtus) but all were empty in this case and did not contain dead animals. These may have been last years nest. June 30 Traps checked once today and finally two male Picrotongs were taken in trapline II. All the other lines revealed nothing but longspins. A dowitcher nest with four eggs found near transect II Tom and I took a walk downstream
