June 24 Barrow, Alaska
This morning went out in a weasel with Pete Savolik & Tom Cade to an area just north of Transect IX which shows high winter lemming usage judging by the presence of hay and lemming nests. We set out the soil transect for Schultz.
While we were there Pete spotted a least weasel which we chased and then dug out of the tundra. It was caught alive and brought back to the lab (see account)
Caught up on field note writings. Prepared during the day to leave for Mead River which we did not do because the weather was overcast.
Bill Maker made an offer of 2-3 dollars for seal skulls and notified the Barrow village people. Day before yesterday four seal skulls were brought in and today two.
June 25 Atkanik, Mead River Coal Mine, Alaska
Left Barrow at about 0900 and arrived at Mead River about 1030. Bobby Fisher was the pilot and the flight was made with Tom Cade. Saw a group of six caribou while on our way to Mead River. Noticed "spotty" locations of lemming activity as we flew over the tundra.
