June 20
Barrow, Alaska
in a nest; weasel droppings are found
on the outside. (see op account of Lemmus)
a tabulated chart for listing Lemmus
nests and any predator signs has been
started; much time was spent in the field
checking nests.
Checked Transects I, II, V, VI, VII and VIII
in the afternoon.
June 21.
Tom and Bill and myself went with John
Cantlin into the field where John helped
us to identify some of the more common
plants (grasses). Also looked for more
Lemmus nests.
Ran all six traps just once today. I have not
yet seen a live Lemmus at Barrow.
June 22
Prepared study skins of two red phalarope
and a semi palmated sandpiper. Checked
the six traplines just once today. While
checking transect I I made it a point
to check a longspur nest noticed on the line
yesterday. The three eggs there yesterday were
gone today and for droppings were found in
the nest (see op account fx).
June 23
Prepared several study skins. Retrieved
all six traplines in the evening. Saw
a fox hunting on the tundra. Observed a
snowy owl. Prepared to go to Dead Bird tomorrow
