June 13 Wainwright, Alaska
"lagoon" about 5 miles west of the
village. The man's name is Joe
Avelogan [illegible] (Spelling given to me
by Waldo Bodfish) He stated that it was
shot day before yesterday.
Traps checked in the evening with
a catch of one longspur.
June 14 Traps checked in the morning and
the only take was two red phalaropes.
The day is extremely foggy. Setting out
for transects III and IV, I suddenly
discovered myself at transect I.
Two razor-billed jaegers were seen
during the morning trapline check.
Walked west along a small exposed
patch of beach for about two miles, then
went down to thundra and headed back
to village. On way back discovered
snowy owl caught in steel trap (see account)
Walked over to dumps area to look for
any possible skulls - found none. Picked
up some eskimo artifacts along beach
ridge.
Only three pomarine jaegers were seen
on this walk.
Not a single thing was caught in the
evening run of the traps.
