Along with Bill Mahr, checked the two
transects this morning. Once again nothing
taken except two longspurs. Reproductive
information is being, and has been, collected
for all birds caught in the sna/traps. About
four jaegers were noticed while checking
the traplines.
Traps left out by Mel Solomon at
transect three were retrieved. Much of this
transsect as well as IV is still under
snow or else surrounded by water.
Took walk along tundra about a mile west
of village - only three jaegers seen during
walk.
Retrieved traplines I and II and set
out-traplines III and IV which are about
one-third covered by snow. While doing
this two pomarine jaegers were seen
flying NW while at a later time eight
pomarine jaegers were noted at one
time all seemingly hunting in the area.
In all about 15 jaegers were seen today.
Met old man in village who had about
a dozen red phalaropes on a string; he claimed that
they taste very good and he was going to eat
them.
